Let Them Eat Cake!

Wedding Cake

With all the latest trends popping up on social media, you may not know which way you want to go with your wedding cake. Traditional cake, cupcakes, maybe even gelato? Here’s how to decide on the sweetest ending to the perfect day:

Start Pinning

A quick search on Pinterest or Instagram will pull up so many great ideas. If one sparks your interest, pin it! Make a board of your favorites to share with your groom. Find a style of cake or dessert that you think will highlight the reception! Remember, while elegant cakes are super beautiful, there’s no pressure to keep it traditional if you don’t want to. You’d be surprised how classy a donut bar can be. Have fun and do what makes you and your Mr. Right happy.

Find a Vendor

Google local bakeries and specialty shops to see what’s in your area. You’ll want to check for availability, price and past reviews. You may have to make a few phone calls to find the places you want to visit in person. If you have a dream look in mind, bring several pictures with you to make sure it’s doable. Once you’ve got it narrowed down, do a taste test!

Find Your Flavor

Take your future husband and have a taste test date! This is a fun way to blow off some steam during all the crazy wedding planning. Sample different flavors from your vendor to see what you both like. Most cake shops, bakeries and specialty dessert shops will be happy to show off their star flavors! Make sure to call ahead and make an appointment beforehand.

A Little Goes a Long Way

If a large wedding cake is simply out of the question budget-wise, don’t break the bank. Have a small cake make that you and the groom will cut, and then a larger sheet cake for friends and family. We also recommend having a smaller cake for the bride and groom if you’re doing an alternative dessert, like cookies or cupcakes. Then, you’ll still have pictures and the “cutting of the cake” tradition (and seriously like the only chance you’ll ever get to smash cake all over your partner’s face in front of their friends and family).

Follow Up

Once you’ve paid your deposit, you’ll be good to go. But make sure to stay in contact with your dessert vendor before the wedding to make sure everything is in order. A few weeks before the wedding is a good time to call and make sure things are on track. Double check they have the correct location and time. Just be careful not to overstep or be a helicopter bride. They know what they’re doing!

Top it Off

Cute cake toppers are the cherry on top. You can choose from traditional figures or go for a more modern look with a personalized cake topper. It can be low key or a complete show stopper. Whatever you choose, make it unique to you!

Before you know it, it will be your big day. And nothing is sweeter than sharing sweets with your sugar! After everything is said and done, don’t forget to have someone freeze a slice for your one year anniversary.
